MISSOURI’S BEST MEAT PRODUCTS WERE SELECTED
The quality of meat products produced by Western’s Smokehouse of Greentop, Missouri was recognized at the Missouri Association of Meat Processors’ 78th annual convention and trade show held at the Holiday Inn Executive Center, Columbia, MO, March 3-5, 2017. At this state-wide Meat Product Competition held in conjunction with the meeting, Western’s Smokehouse received the following product award(s):
- Champion Best of the Midwest Summer Sausage
The competition, the only Missouri state contest of its kind, selected the finest examples of cured and smoked specialty items from over 250 products entered into 21 different classes including hams, bacon, sausages, ring bologna, jerky, snack sticks, smoked turkey and luncheon meats.
In addition to the Meat Products Competition one of the highlights of this convention was the 93-booth trade show featuring the latest meat processing equipment, supplies and services.
Sam Western had the honor of inducting all of the 2017-2018 officers and board members into their respective roles. The new officers and board members all accepted the responsibilities that Sam read aloud to the entire association. These newly inducted officials will take care of all of the association’s business throughout the next year.
Kevin Western and two other meat processors from the state held a seminar about employee retention and benefits. The seminar was an hour and a half long and each processor spoke about their individual experiences with dealing with employee retention and the benefits they provide in order to retain current employees.
The Missouri Association of Meat Processors was founded in 1939. Currently it represents over 110 small and medium size meat processing operations. MAMP’s objectives are to assist the small meat plants to produce safe products, and to help them create “niche” markets that enables them to provide services that meet the needs of their consumers.Back to In the News
